We are members of the North West Sunday Cross Country League. These races take place during the winter and are between 7-10km, they are a great accompaniment to winter training and are a real test of endurance. Some of the pictures from our recent races are on the right.
All races begin at 10am and a cost of £2 per race.
Below is the report from the season 2023-24
22nd October – Clarke Gardens
As ever the mud was present for our first XC race of the new season. Clarke Gardens the venue and a race that’s always well attended. This time it appears the numbers where at bumper levels but 4 intrepid runners arrived at 9am ready to take on the course.
With the clubs pop up tent and flag put up, the boys were ready to go. The course was pretty sloppy in the woods, but generally passible, even if as some of you will know, the river we ran through was quite wet!
168 Colin Thomson, 219 Barry McDonnell, 248 Ian McNeil, 271 Andy Waring
Onto the next one, one of our favourites at Beacon Park. Hopefully Ian D will be off the holidays by then to join us.
19th November – Beacon Park (Skemersdale)
Well what a muddy challenge Beacon Park welcomed the guys at the XC this morning. In the rain and over a new course of the old golf course we went left, down and mud, up more mud. Good to welcome Rob Tyson to XC so we had a full team today with Ian Davies, Colin Thomson, Barry McDonnell, Ian McNeil and Andy Waring.
In the clubhouse afterwards for some chilli and a hot drink before the trek home, feet are just about warm.
17th December – Arrowe Park – Pensby
On Sunday 17th December 7 runners made their way the short distance to Arrowe Park for the 3rd race of the cross country season. Early pictures of the course did not deter the team with the promise of mud, slop and plenty of water provided in equal measure, even the warm up was wet!
Quite the competitive field, with a small pond sized puddle at the end of the two laps was the perfect pick me up for the festive period, a full mens team for the second week running saw us move up to 16th in the standards with the top 10 well within our sights. Rob Tyson with a top 50 finish and Lyn Ebbrell running her first XC race were particular highlights, along with Ian Davies and Colin Thomson neck and neck to the line! Well done to everyone.
Rob Tyson – 46, Ian Davies – 157, Colin Thomson – 158, Barry McDonnell - 168
Ian McNeill – 195, Andy Waring - 200
Ladies:
Lyn Ebbrell – 101
14th January – Town Park (Warrington)
Well the setting was all we could ask for a day as the course at Town Park in Runcorn has everything. Before tackling the course the first obstacle was to avoid the dog mess. Lots of mud, some lovely puddles that had the smell of..... and a hill that for you as you get half way up.
34th Rob Tyson
155th Colin Thomson
187th Andy Waring
